Months ago when I read that they were coming, I was quite excited! Not because it’s a bunch of male strippers, but because it was unthinkable in the past for a group of male erotic dancers to perform in Singapore.

I remembered when I visited Las Vegas in June last year and seeing billboards of them as well as many other shows of every kind for both men and women, I wondered if what I was seeing there would eventually be made available in Singapore.

Now we have Chippendales, which is a good start, and since I missed my opportunity last year, I must make up for it this time!!

My first visit to the Resorts World Sentosa was for this show! The Coliseum is a non-airconditioned, fully sheltered amphitheatre at Hard Rock Hotel. There are huge coolers at the sides though. I wouldn't recommend buying front row side seats because the speakers are deafening. The most expensive ticket cost S$200, which gives you better cushioned seats with a little wooden table in between, and free flow alcohol.

The poor men must be suffering in our heat. Not only are they performing in a non-airconditioned venue, they have to come out clothed in layers of clothes first, so there’s somewhere to go, if you know what I mean. They were meant to tease but I’m not sure they feel sexy with the perspiration dripping off their foreheads. It’s almost like they can’t wait to take off all the clothes because it’s too hot not to.

The last piece of item on them would be a g-string, and that never comes off. The stripping is coordinated with the dance moves, and very tastefully choreographed, so there’s nothing sleazy about the show. It’s more a bunch of men with very good bodies singing and dancing with very little clothes on. And of course, using props that are phallic symbols.

The crowd that day was quite sporting, women were screaming and cheering the men on while they ripped their tank tops and pulled their boxers off. Some got out from their chairs and danced but most women were reserved than wild. The men came downstage a few times to interact with the audience, which was good for the people who paid for tickets at the back.

The good thing about the venue was that it encourages spontaneity and doesn’t put a vast physical distance between the audience and the stage. Yet there was something unemotional about the whole experience. The things they said throughout the performance felt contrived, like you know they have already said this to every audience for every show. Once in a while, you get one Chippendale talking to the audience but while he tried to engage the audience, asking questions like “Who would like to keep me company tonight?”, it felt like he didn’t really care about our response, because really, all that talk was to buy time for the rest of the men to change.

Maybe it’s the heat, that makes them want to be over and done with so they can relax in the comfort of their hotel rooms. That, I don’t blame them.

But the next time I’m in Vegas, I’d be having different expectations.

Although it was only a two-hour session, it had to make me look like I had years of training.

This day, I was down for a 12-hour shoot day, all of which were fighting scenes. It was the best workout ever!

During filming, the stunt coordinator will choreograph the fight sequences on the spot, and that’s when I will try to learn as much as I can before going for actual take. Unfortunately, due to the urgent telecast dates, we do not have the luxury of time to practise and perfect the moves. It’s usually 3 or 4 rehearsals before we roll and shoot.

这是我们在彩拍的时候，摄影师不小心的配合，让我的助理不小心的拍到！

不过记得一定要收看这个星期天，晚上8点， 8频道的《皇帽瑞狮喜迎虎》－ 说不出的爱！

There are many different types of Holga cameras and it started off as a boring black, inexpensive, 120 medium-format toy film camera. Haha, but the one I got look like this:

This is how it looks when the back is popped. Notice the spool is rather long? That’s because this is a medium-format camera, so it doesn’t use the regular 35mm film. This also means the photo processing fee is slightly more expensive. More than S$1 per piece!

Now here are some photos my assistant and I took separately on this camera. Although I could take a maximum of 12 photos, only 7 turned out. The rest were underexposed. With the 7, there’s a bit of overlapping because we didn’t know how much to wind the camera before taking the next shot. But that’s the beauty of film cameras, you don’t have the luxury of checking the image once it’s taken, so it’ll always be a surprise!

这一天的拍摄，天不做美，一会儿下雨，一会儿太阳出来，空气潮湿，好难受。

我们常在这后巷拍舞狮的戏，所以晒到皮肤最近有点黑。后来有人投诉，警察出马，我们没办法，只好换地点。

Customised Goyard bag

Some years ago, an air steward friend of mine told me about Goyard bags. He recommended the St Louis Tote to me, but at that time I didn’t appreciate it, thinking that it’s just an overpriced piece of canvas. My thoughts were: It’s so light and flimsy-looking, how can it bear heavy weight? The truth is, it is stronger than it looks.

After doing a bit of search on the Internet, I now understand why. Goyard makes luggages, so it’s no surprise they use ligh-weight and durable materials.

Here’s a bit about the brand:

Goyard is a French malletier (trunkmaker) founded in 1853, and is now currently the oldest trunk maker in existence.

In the past, the Grand Duke of Russia, the Maharajah de Kapurthala, The Duke and Duchess of Windsor and many aristocratic families, all travelled with Goyard luggage. And their special orders have always been an important part of Goyard’s reputation.

Goyard is known for its hard-sided trunks, and small accessories. All pieces are covered in a signature hand-painted patented Chevron canvas made of cotton, linen, and hemp and displayed in various colors. The chevron canvas was created in 1892, traditionally produced in black and red.

Goyard is renowned for monogramming the durable, lightweight canvas with the initials of their customers upon request.

After all that introduction, here’s a peak at what I got:

A very sweet Apple Hong who just got back from Paris brought this back for me! It came complete with the paper bag too!

It's such a joy opening it up!!

My St Louis Tote PM in White (€580). It feels light but sturdy, and if you look closely, all the stitching are done to make sure the handles don't break and the bag doesn't split at the sides.

I just love the hand-painted details. This is a piece of art!
