My interest in sewing hasn’t waned quite yet, in fact, I’ve been trying all sorts of craft work, from patchwork to sewing to beading. It spanned across several weeks, although now as I put this entry together, it’s gonna look like I was on a sewing/craft-work-high. I have to admit I was, and have taken a very avid interest in this since, because when you actually see the end product, there’s a great sense of accomplishment! It’s like all those hours do pay off! Well, here are some of my proud, made-with-love items for all to see…:)
My first attempt at patchwork!
I love this tiny little shop. It has beautiful (but expensive!) cloth, my favourite are those with small flowers! Does anyone know of any place I can get cheaper and pretty floral cloth?
These will eventually be sewn together to make a little patchwork pouch, which I have yet to learn how. *hee*
I bought this little cross-stitch design from the market while I was filming "Like Father Like Daughter" last year. It was left alone for a year and I only took it out recently to complete it.
Almost completed, only without the outline!
Ta-da! It's done!
This is a small drawstring pouch I made! It's actually a lot harder to make small items even though the steps are quite simple.
It's meant to be a lavender satchet for my car.
This book was borrowed from the library. My basic beading "coursebook".
I made these bracelets!
Which one do you like?
I bought this Japanese magazine from Borders. There are pictures to explain how to make simple tops and dresses.
The was what I attempted to make.
The instructions with pictures.
Ta-da! I spent about 15 hours making this dress with the help of my mom.
Jeneen, Desmond, me and Nat
Desmond's glasses are for show only.
Learning to eat with our hands
Eating the bua keluak...this takes a long time to prepare! I know because when we went for the cooking class, you have to first break the nut, dig out the flesh, pound the flesh till it's mashed, and then stuff it back into the nut. Each nut yields only a bit of flesh and when you stuff it back you need to fill up the entire nut, so imagine how many nuts u need to crack and how long you need to pound! I salute the women who prepare this dish at home and the chefs who did this at True Blue.
Nat with Umeshu Rock & Desmond with Ice Green Tea
Me, Nat, Desmond, Jeneen & Andie. Jerry was on the way.
Hamburger ice-cream. So pretty!!
The two boys flanking Jeneen and her chocolate cake, so sweet!
The first victim of the forfeit (salmon sashima+a dollop of wasabi+mint leave)
The second victim had to eat the same thing, without so much wasabi. Nat almost puked! Desmond is obviously gloating, but wait till the 3rd round... 。。
Sushi with pepper and chocolate ice-cream. His own doing!
Jerry and Andie doing a duet.
Jerry attempting to inject emotional expression into the song, while Desmond reacts...Hahah!!
While I was sourcing my pictures from Cape Town, South Africa for an 8DAYS supplement story last weekend, I found some pictures taken then that I’d like to share. It’s not easy taking animal pictures, because they have unpredictable temperaments. Not owning a telephoto lens also makes it difficult to get good close-ups.
A monitor lizard, Table Mountains.
These baboons are fearless and because there were so many of them, I had a horrifying thought that they would attack my car! Taken on my drive back from Cape Point.
On my way to Cape Point, I passed by the Ostrich Farm. I didn’t pay the farm a visit but merely stood near the ostriches for a photo!
There’re plenty of such carvings on display at the flea markets. They cost quite bit at niche furniture shops in Singapore, but it’ll be too inconvenient to bring it home from there.
I love the way the flying bird contrasts with nature.
Seals taking a break.
Squirrels bound along the pavements in the garden. They’re very agile creatures so it’s not easy getting close to them.
A very sad-looking fish.
Jellyfish
King Crab
South African penguins。
Suddenly I have the urge to pack my bags and go somewhere. Cape Town was my graduation trip, so I took 2 weeks and without much of an itinerary, did whatever I felt like doing, following my instincts most of the time. I miss that sort of spontaneity and I hope I haven’t lost that courage after so long. I think my next trip, if I can get a longer break, would be somewhere adventurous. I’m thinking Norway, swim with the killer whales, white water rafting, hiking and just simply doing something out of the ordinary.
Starring in a drama like “Beach Ball Babes”, it is almost impossible to stay away from the sun, that is why I have my trusty umbrella(s)! Here’s a look at me, under various brollies.
This brolly is my favourite because it opens up to a wide shade, but yet isn’t too bulky when folded. Too bad it’s almost broken!
This is a HUGE rectangular-shaped umbrella. When held against the sun, it can shade all 173cm of me and other times, about 8 people can seek shelter from the dreadful sun!
I’m just fooling around with the director…oops!
This umbrella belongs to our bus uncle. It’s still very hot because the umbrella doesn’t provide UV protection, but it’s still better than nothing!
I invented this cape by tearing the piece off a broken umbrella. It’s light-weight, easy to carry and doesn’t stand in the way of the camera…
More importantly, I can wrap myself up with it, or use it as a beach mat. How useful!!
Now I’ve got the brolly and the cape…
I tried to make the cape fly, so Wayne can be the Superhero! Haha!
I was full of anticipation knowing that I would be playing twins in “Beach Ball Babes”. I was curious how filming would take place, and how I would have to take on two different personalities at the same time. In this case, it is a little challenging because our personalities do not lie on opposing ends, like say, the good vs the evil twin. In other words, I had to find a subtle difference in their personalities so that they won’t come out looking the same.
In this scene, my “sister” and I are playing on the same court. The older sister (Liu Xuan) is a spiker, while the younger sister (Rainie) is a setter. Here’s my attempt at explaining how filming is done to show two of me in the same shot.
The director is trying to achieve a blocking shot by the twins. Michelle is on my right and she is there to give the cameraman an idea where the other me would be standing. During the actual take, I jumped alone, and then after changing my jersey and hairstyle, proceed to stand on the other side to repeat the same move.
Our 8DAYS cover issue is out! Have you grabbed one yet?
I didn’t want to put up too many pictures earlier so as not to spoil the surprise of the cover, but now that it’s out, here is a sneak peak behind-the-scenes.
We were told to kept moving, and to keep pushing against Chris, so that the photographer can capture the energy on our faces. With the fan blowing in our face, us girls wearing boxer briefs for the first time in our lives, and socked-feet, we had to move in sync while balancing ourselves and looking radiant for the camera. It was definitely fun doing the cover together! I feel so alive…:)
Fong Fan preparing me for the next look…the dress was slipping off my shoulders, and we had to stuff a towel at the back to make it tighter!
For this picture, I was told that Chris is meant to be just a prop, so all he does is stand there, look handsome, and I get to pose around him.
Here’s a short video. I’m sorry the picture and sound syncing is a bit out. I don’t know why, anyone who has any idea please leave comment ok? Thanks a lot!
